The Bayou Tapestry will entertain us after the weekly Extinction Rebellion North Bristol meeting. Arguably the finest Cajun band in the whole of Bishopston, you may heard them at your local street party or at St Bons & they’ve played the Bristol Cajun Swamp Club several times. They’ve built up a loyal local fanbase, largely through bringing the Cajun gospel to the uninitiated. The nearest they’ve been to Louisiana is Pembrokeshire!
This 6/7 piece have been playing together for a couple of years. Breaking many Cajun rules (melodeon players look away now), they take a DIY approach to attempting slavishly simple copies of old standards. To their amazement, people dance & laugh when they play!
They throw in some of their own self-penned Cajun numbers, focused mostly on traditional swampy topics such as neo-liberalism, climate change, the parliamentary Labour Party, etc. They’re not sure if choruses are strictly allowed in the Cajun format but sing them anyway.
Free event with a hat passed round.
Extinction Rebellion North Bristol meetings take place every Tuesday evening from 6.30 to 9pm at the Hall 160 Gloucester Road (Pigsty Hill). During August, XR are downsizing to meet here at Alchemy 198, which is where many rebels have post-meeting socialising. Bayou Tapestry are keen XR supporters and have agreed to play after the meeting on 13th August. Expect great tunes, including some specifically about XR!
